Judge Not

Why is it that we put more responsibility on ourselves than is necessary? Why do we, as humans, feel that it is our right to judge, criticize, and question the actions and circumstances of others, knowing full well that we are in no position to do so? This is God’s place, correct? Why do we do this, almost naturally? I find myself sometimes even doing this to others who are in situations similar to those which I have been in, or am in, and I justify this by isolating their situation from my own, due to a single difference which ultimately is irrelevant.

I pride myself on being “real” … on speaking my mind, on standing firm in my beliefs, in not bending to the majority’s rule, but I ask myself, how can you be real but at the same time criticize another person for being who they are? And how can I be offended when I myself am judged, criticized, or questioned when I offer these three injustices so readily to others? That’s our nature – somehow we feel compelled to lend opinions, and to place blame, and to harbor ill feelings, and to pass judgement, but when it applies to an aspect of ourselves, we feel that we have been demeaned. This is another part of myself I am working on. It’s not easy to break second nature, but it’s not impossible either.
