My Head is Spinning – Racism Sucks

I’ve been seeing the “Don’t Re-Nig” crap all over the place (in regards to reelecting President Obama) – some of the posters even have Obama in the likeness of a monkey… I can’t express the frustration I feel knowing that we’re nearly in the second quarter of 2012 and racism is still so blatantly evident. I’m not sure what bothers me more – the fact that it’s still a factor plaguing our communities, families… LIVES… or the fact that so many people insist that it doesn’t. :(

I Almost Got a Good Night’s Sleep… Until the Cops Showed Up!

Sunday night was my mother in law’s last night here. She came last week to stay with the kids while I auditioned for The Voice. We had a nice weekend together – she, the kids, and I – and ended up going to bed just before midnight. We woke up around 3am yesterday morning and had to drive her to the bus station almost an hour away… we made it back home around 5am and laid down for a little while until it was time to get the kids ready for school.

Long story short, I didn’t get hardly any sleep so when I got the rest of the kids to sleep and laid down to get Zoe to bed, I fell asleep and when I fell, I fell HARD. By the time Barry got off work and tried to call me, my phone was dead and the house phone was downstairs in Briyana’s room (she sleeps like a freakin’ brick) so he couldn’t get anybody to answer.

So I’m laying in bed sleeping gooooood when I start hearing DING DING DING… BANG BANG BANG… RING RING RING… BAM BAM BAM… and I finally became coherent enough to realize it wasn’t part of my dream.

It seems like with every day that passes, less time is available. Or maybe I’m making less time for things that matter to me so it feels like time is wasted. Either way, always feeling like I’m trying to desperately keep a grip on the current moment as I have one foot in and one foot out of all the things that really mean something in my life is not my idea of peace. Then again, with 5 kids I suppose there’s really no choice but to be spread pretty thin.

Between managing 59 client accounts, operating a three-part business (design/development, hosting, consulting/technical assistance) doing everything in-house from accounting to drafting to scheduling to delegating tasks to independent contractors and then some, tutoring a little girl from the Republic of Cameroon in west Central Africa that is in Tre’s class at school…
