Read more →When someone is attacking you — beating you relentlessly, slamming your head into the sidewalk (as Zimmerman claims was happening to him just before he had NO other choice but to shoot Trayvon in the chest, ending his life), you do NOT have the energy, breath, nor TIME to let out ONE long HEEEEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP let alone several – I mean, test it out if you want… get someone to pound you repeatedly about the face and ram your head into concrete while you’re laying on your back and see if you can get some HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPs out into the atmosphere in resounding quality. There was no interference – there was no cut-off to the screaming – there was no breathlessness – obviously time to take relatively deep breaths in between each… and the last scream ended with the gunshot.
Read more →It’s frustrating to have to share these things with my ten-and-a-half year old son, Tre. It’s hard for me to explain that sometimes he won’t be able to just be the happy-go-lucky child that he is — sometimes he will have to be very aware, very intuitive about what’s going on around him. Sometimes he will have to know instinctively that it’s time to retreat — time to get away from a particular situation. Sometimes he will have to think twice about his choice of clothing for the day depending on where he’s going because it could mean the difference between an uneventful afternoon and being profiled and harassed by civilians or authorities. He asked me sadly, “Mama… do *I* look like a suspect?”

I lost nearly 30 pounds with Mamavation in 2011 but gained back all but 9 after I stopped working out when we moved to Atlanta in July. As of March 1st, I'm "back in the saddle" and going to stay "Mamavated" now!
