Mamavation Monday: Eating, Drinking, and Doing Stuff

Last week, I started a 7-week personal challenge in hopes of getting myself back to my “five-kids-ago” body by the 13th anniversary of the day we found out we were expecting our first born. So far, I’m honestly not doing so hot. I’m trying to take my own advice and not get down about it — not get discouraged — and just pick up today and turn things around. The mind is a powerful thing, though. You have to get it on the same page as your will and that’s not always easy. I WANT to rock this challenge. I WANT to kill these 7 weeks and look hot this summer. So what’s the hold up? I’ve eaten out twice in the last 7 days. I had brownies on family night. I ate cinnamon rolls for breakfast today. I’ve been on the treadmill … once. And all that water I was drinking? Sweet tea really isn’t a good substitute. Does that sound promising to you? Yeah, me either :(

Last night, 9pm rolled around and I started getting the kids in bed. I told Ava and Zoe to stop playing around and wind it down because it was time to go to sleep. Did they listen? Not hardly. About 5 minutes later, Ava started screaming and Zoe and Talia came running in the room with me saying there was blood everywhere. It looked like a mini crime scene! There was a puddle of blood in the bathroom floor, streaks of blood down the hallway, two small puddles in their bedroom, and when I made it to Avalyn, her foot was COVERED in blood.

Showing Understanding Keeps Kids Safe {Encourage Them To Be Honest!}

My kids know that I will understand just about anything and help them, go to battle for them, support them in any circumstance, mistake, or bad situation as long as they are honest with me. When we catch them being dishonest, they get the worst punishments possible. Why? Because in this house, there isn’t much worse you can be than a liar. They will make mistakes over the course of their lives… they will do things they regret. My hope is that as they grow up and mature, they possess the mentality that no matter what they mess up, it can be fixed with honesty and accountability. They may lose things – they may even lose people, but they will always be trustworthy… and most of the time, their honesty — and the resulting sense of integrity they will live by — will keep them from making mistakes they will have to be responsible for.

I just want to say thank you for being a great friend, Shynea Hunter! Three years ago yesterday, I Skyped you needing someone to talk to because I was hurt and confused and couldn’t make sense of what was going on. I felt like the world was spinning out of control and I was in disbelief. You sort of always suck at knowing what to say when things are going terrible (lol) but you listened to me, had my back, and gave me strength when I needed it the most. Since then, we’ve passed that torch back and forth a number of times.

I’m grateful to God for giving me the blessing of such a great friendship. Never too busy. Never judgmental. Never overstepping. Never out of touch. Never out of mind, no matter how long we’re out of sight. :) Happy “Friendiversary” … lol
