Barry works hard. That’s no secret. I’ve talked about his occupation countless times but for those who are new to my blog, he works in the middle of the ocean on an oil rig for 28 days straight. Hard work. If anyone could make a good case for coming home and doing absolutely NOTHING for the time he’s off the rig, it would be him. My husband respects that I need to *do me* as much as he needs to *do him*… and when he comes home, he makes it a point to give me time to myself — he takes the kids places and leaves me to do my own thing and he supports me in being involved in the things that I enjoy. I was completely shocked when he agreed to do the Vampire 5K with me a couple of weekends ago. This is one example of him getting interested in the things I like so that he can meet me where I am in life and be involved.
Barry is not a runner at all. He loves working out and lifting heavy, but a runner he is definitely not. Yet he did — not because he enjoys it but because I enjoy it and he enjoys having a place in every aspect of my world. My husband teaches me how to be selfless and leads me into being better within our union by show me through his example.
I love him for that.
What’s This Series About Anyway??
I believe that strong marriages rely on three key elements:
- Love – unconditional
- Communication – uninterrupted
- Affirmation – uninhibited
Everything else stems from how healthy the couple is in those three areas. Because of this, I’ve started communicating my love for my husband through weekly affirmations… those simple statements of truth that let him know I see all the ways he expresses his love for me. I’ve written a lot about what kind of wife I am and how I love and support my husband. This is the other side of that :)
