Tyler New Media is owned and operated by Ronnie and Lamar Tyler, one of the most inspirational, down-to-earth, and ambitious couples I’ve had the pleasure of knowing in recent years. One thing my readers know from the first line of reading anything on my blog is that FAMILY is the single most important thing to me second to my relationship with God. Ronnie and Lamar, who also happen to be the creators of the popular website BlackandMarriedWithKids.com, are motivated by the same values that I am and their entire life — personally and professionally — reflects a determination to uphold them and stimulate our society to embrace the same.
Tyler New Media has produced several films supporting the same positive image of marriage, manhood, and family (particularly in the black community) that they promote on their website, such as Happily Ever After, Men Ain’t Boys, and You Saved Me which can all be previewed by visiting their Film Division page. Their latest film is being referred to as the next installment of timeless love stories and stars Kindred the Family Soul, Speech (from Arrested Development) with his wife Yolanda, and Dr. Sherry Blake. The film features a diverse group of couples as they provide transparent, insightful conversation about what it takes to have lasting power in current day marriages.
I am specifically excited to attend this screening because of all the tests and trials my own marriage had to go through in order to get to the point of our own personal “perfection“ and I’ve always wondered why more couples aren’t as willingly open as I tend to be in order to encourage and support families currently experiencing the fires of marriage when the institution itself seems like such broken cause these days. In our interracial marriage, Barry and I created a blended family — five children together and his two children from a previous relationship — and have overcome extensive financial hardship (living in poverty for the first several years as we struggled through college after becoming teen parents), infidelity, and chronic illness (my Fibromyalgia) so we can closely relate to the majority of what is discussed in Still Standing. Lamar and Ronnie Tyler, through Tyler New Media, present expressions of hope, unconditional love, and longstanding commitment which have been threatened yet proven in spite of infidelity, chronic illness, financial crisis, blended families, and more. Come join me on September 13th to experience the explanation of WHY and HOW these couples are STILL STANDING despite the odds.
A common misconception is that information about marriage is only relevant to married people. I highly recommend this film to everyone… your perception on these issues is important to all your future relationships and ultimately to the marriage you will enter into in the future. Society’s perception is important to the way these issues are responded to by those surrounding couples who find themselves going through them. Are you single? Come see it. Are you in a relationship? Come see it. Are you married? Come see it. Have you been looking for a great reason to plan a girls’ night out or the perfect event for your marriage or singles ministry? COME SEE IT!
