Realizing God Isn’t Getting What He Deserves From Me

Over the last few weeks, I have been finding myself frequently catching a few minutes here and there to scan through some of my older blog posts and I came to a realization that stunned me: God isn’t nearly as evident in my writing anymore as he was years ago. He has allowed us to reach a point where we aren’t lacking or needing or stressing. We barely even notice when we spend in a day or two what used to have to last us two weeks. I’ve gotten to where I love that security. It’s exciting to just go do what we want to do. It makes me happy to be able to get things we want in addition to having everything we need! But what’s it all worth if it takes my eyes off of the Lord of my life?

Those who have read my blog for any length of time know that I shared all of the struggles… all of the hard times. All the tears and frustrations. The job losses, the vehicle repossessions, the utility disconnections, the ramen noodles and corn dog nights. No one tried to act funny with me back then. Now that we’re doing well for ourselves, I’m not supposed to be elated about it? I shouldn’t share the fact that we’re secure and enjoying just LIVING life instead of fighting through it like we had to do for so many years? That doesn’t balance out… does it? Yet, I keep getting the feeling that certain people in particular are doing this competing thing to make sure I know that they still have it better than we do.

At the end of the day, if you’re happy with where you are then my question is… who cares?

Atlanta mom of five, Tameka Foster (previously Raymond — as in the former wife of singing sensation Usher Raymond) is putting her notoriety to good use next month as her Lost Ones Foundation partners up with Atlanta Diaper Relief to host a massive diaper drive in Alpharetta, GA for Atlanta’s only diaper bank. Founded by yet another Atlanta mom of five, Kia Morgan Smith, the nonprofit has dedicated its efforts to collect and distribute diapers to families in need at no cost. On June 3rd, the two charities will join forces to being awareness to a growing epidemic across our nation but especially right here in our own back yard — something most people wouldn’t even think of… the need for diapers to cover Atlanta’s little bottoms.

Mamavation Monday: Boot Camp and I’m Actually DIETING (Sort Of)

I’m late, as usual. Yesterday was a LONG day and I didn’t get around to updating lol I have 2 weeks and 5 days left in my personal 7 week challenge and I’m not going to make my weight loss goals, but I feel like I’m going to be very happy with my results. As I’ve been burning fat while building muscle, each has canceled the other out in terms of weight. I don’t feel like I will actually start losing weight until this week or next. I’ve got 19 days until my challenge ends but it doesn’t stop there. I’ll be finishing THIS boot camp session next Thursday and starting my second 4-week session on the 28th of this month. I won’t be satisfied until I have abs to be jealous of… so if you’re the jealous type, it’s game ON!

I used to look back and imagine all the things I gave up to become their mom. Now, I realize that they were my purpose and nothing I ever gave up would have been worth one day without them. Happy Mother’s Day — to me and to all the other mothers who know what it’s like to give so much of yourself yet yearn to give more… to all the mothers who aren’t just somewhere but who are there. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers who don’t take the easy road and who struggle against their own desires, juggle life while striving for their own ambitions, and smile through sheer exhaustion in order to always be an active and involved presence in their children’s lives…

As life would have it, a twist of events led us to move to the greater Atlanta area in July so here we are with a larger room and a Queen sized bed. We finally decided to remedy the situation by ordering the King bed to match our current set (and I cannot wait to sleep on the Simmons Beautyrest pillowtop mattresses with so much room that I won’t have to threaten Barry’s life to get him to move over) and while that decision didn’t require much brain power, choosing the bedding and accessories for the room wasn’t that simple… so I took to Facebook and set out to get some opinions to aid in choosing a great color combination that would also be good quality, have positive reviews, and NOT be dry-clean-only.
