In all honesty, even when Barry was in the NFL, I never really tried hard to make our house “ours” if that makes any sense. We literally had the big white house on the hill but I’ve never been a decorator. We had nice furniture, most of the fixtures and flooring in the house was all custom, but I never added any personal touches. This time around, we are sort of starting over. We were in Louisiana for about 7 years and we really never had much company or many friends so perhaps that is why I never felt compelled to spend money on fixing up a house that only we would see. Barry and I were not interested in all of that kind of stuff and the kids were too young to know the difference.
Now, however, we are back in our hometown so we have family and friends over regularly and the kids are getting older so they have company on the weekends and my oldest daughter is definitely into the “look” of things so I want to step up my game and start marking this home with all of our personalities :)

When I decided on the house we moved into in January, one of the first things that stole my heart about it was the chandelier in the dining area. It’s got a simple, but beautiful style that gives the room such a nice feel. I’m a sucker for elegant lighting options, so naturally when I began contemplating more ways to make this house our home, my mind turned to wall sconces as a great way to add a personal touch to the office area. There is already a stylish floating shelf on one wall, but the other is bare and the lighting isn’t much to speak of so a sconce would serve both an aesthetic and a functional purpose for me.
I’m also looking around for unique paintings or wall hangings, knick knacks, figurines, and candleholders to accent the house as well as accent pieces for our furniture and perhaps even some removable decorative wall art for the kids’ rooms. Pics will come over the next few weeks as I get this project underway! If you have any suggestions or advice, I’m always open to those!!!
