Cabbage Soup Diet: I QUIT!

Posted by on Aug 6, 2010 in Goals/Plans | 5 comments | 600 views

There is nothing I can think of at the moment worse than having to eat this stuff for one more meal. Maybe I’m exaggerating. Maybe not. I’ve never been so bored with a diet in my life! I’m officially giving up. Okay, so let’s be honest… I gave up over a day ago LOL As a matter of fact, Wednesday evening I celebrated giving up by having a pork chop. Here’s how my chat with Lynsey went this time (only my portion; I don’t publish other people’s ends of conversations I have online):

[8/4/2010 10:22:06 PM] Kat Robertson: I went ALL day only eating that freaking potato
[8/4/2010 10:22:20 PM] Kat Robertson: At dinner, I cooked pork chops, corn, grits, and cornbread
[8/4/2010 10:22:25 PM] Kat Robertson: and I partook lol
[8/4/2010 10:22:40 PM] Kat Robertson: In my defense, however…
[8/4/2010 10:22:45 PM] Kat Robertson: I didn’t make any for myself
[8/4/2010 10:22:52 PM] Kat Robertson: But Tre only wanted his grits
[8/4/2010 10:22:59 PM] Kat Robertson: So I couldn’t just let the rest go to waste hehe

[8/4/2010 10:24:55 PM] Kat Robertson: We need to come up with our OWN diet plan
[8/4/2010 10:25:00 PM] Kat Robertson: Something we can actually stick to.
[8/4/2010 10:25:11 PM] Kat Robertson: There’s really no sense in committing to plans we know we can’t do long term.
[8/4/2010 10:25:23 PM] Kat Robertson: Isn’t that what it’s really about? Lifestyle changes?
[8/4/2010 10:26:49 PM] Kat Robertson: How about we try this out
[8/4/2010 10:27:14 PM] Kat Robertson: Every day, we’ll talk about what we’ve eaten, or what we’re planning on eating… what we’ve done or plan to do to exercise.
[8/4/2010 10:27:21 PM] Kat Robertson: And we will be HONEST lol
[8/4/2010 10:28:10 PM] Kat Robertson: That way, we’re less likely to eat anything horrible for us
[8/4/2010 10:28:19 PM] Kat Robertson: because then we have to share that news with each other
[8/4/2010 10:28:50 PM] Kat Robertson: And we’ll make a conscious effort to eat things that are healthy (or at least healthier) for us.
[8/4/2010 10:28:57 PM] Kat Robertson: More baked or grilled than fried.
[8/4/2010 10:29:00 PM] Kat Robertson: Stuff like that
[8/4/2010 10:29:15 PM] Kat Robertson: I think that will work a WHOLE lot better than this
[8/4/2010 10:29:35 PM] Kat Robertson: I mean, we made it through a few days of this mess with each other’s support

[8/4/2010 10:53:43 PM] Kat Robertson: Ugh, you have no idea how wonderful it’s gong to feel to eat an omelet in the morning

Lynsey left her diet plan behind gracefully… she felt bad for quitting and actually wanted to make it the whole seven days, but she started feeling sluggish and it was affecting her work. I thankfully never made it to the sluggish stage… but I did get to the detesting-whoever-came-up-with-it-in-the-first-place stage and personally don’t feel bad at all for quitting. Not at all. At. All. I told her she can “leave” this diet as gracefully as she feels is necessary. I, on the other hand, will be dropping this plan right where it falls, which happened to be all over that pork chop Wednesday night :)

Now, I’m not trying to discourage anyone else from trying it out. If you can stomach cabbage soup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 7 days straight, you could totally benefit from doing this. I can’t. And I am woman enough to admit defeat LOL! If I have that much will power in my body, for some reason it just decided not to all come together this week… and seriously, when eating a graham cracker with cream cheese on a diet is considered “cheating” something is wrong. I’m just sayin’…

Until next time...

The soup looks good but I have to wonder how eating up to 8 bananas in one day can help you lose weight. Did you get to the banana day?

How funny! For some reason I haven’t been getting your emails (I do subscribe), so I must have missed when you decided to do this. But how serendipitous, because I just did this diet two weeks ago! Now, full disclosure: I didn’t stick to it very tightly. I just ate tons of soup and fruit and drank loads of water, but a couple of nights I had a small portion of whatever my family was eating for dinner–but only AFTER I’d had a bowl of my soup. Figured that way at least I’d eat less of the ‘bad-but-delicious’ real food! We had also been invited to a family dinner over the weekend with a set menu, so I just ate normally that night. I have no way to weigh myself, but my jeans did fit more loosely at the end of the week! Whoo-hoo!!

I figure I will do the Cabbage Soup thing maybe once a month or so, maybe less often, just to sort of remind me to keep my little hands off the chocolate. :) I find that, since doing it, I’m at least more aware of my snack habits, and am just trying really hard to replace the junk I crave with healthful alternatives. It’s a slow way to lose weight, I guess, but I’m just not committed enough to do anything more drastic.

P.S. It helps that I really like the soup. LOL

Diets like this just don’t sound healthy to me. I lost 75 pounds on a Weight Watchers-style (read: not official) diet. I ate healthier, kept track of calories, ate smaller portions and drank more water. Plus, I worked in little “cheats” for me to help me satisfy my cravings. A craving for chocolate could be answered with a Hershey’s kiss (sucked on, not chewed to make it last longer). A craving for ice cream would be satisfied with fat free frozen yogurt.

I was the same way with an “apple fast” that I went on. I wanted my skin to clear up (silly teenage hormones) and to have nice dewey skin. So I followed this thing called the apple fast…you can only eat apples and drink water for 3 days and maybe one cup of tea over the course of those days. I was throwing up by the 2nd day even though I barely had anything in my stomach. I was super weak and lost about 5 lbs…and I’m already petite am under 100 lbs. I was frail and by the time I finished the fast, I couldn’t look at an apple the same way again. My sister and I celebrated the completion of the fast by going to Olice Garden. And of course I pigged out!
