I have been hearing the buzz about this video all week long, but I have not actually watched it until now. I’ve seen tweets referring to the routine ranging from “it’s ok” to “I’m disgusted” and I have to say that I lean more toward the side of those who are completely disgusted.
As a mother of four small girls I cannot for the life of me understand WHAT would possess any parent to allow their 7 year old to move this way. This is not a creative dance routine. It’s a pedophile’s dream – a “peep show” by five seven-year-old elementary school kids. It’s not even a strip tease because they already don’t have any clothes on. What they are wearing would excite the heck out of my husband if I wore it! What business do little children have putting on getups like this? And then moving their bodies in ways that are extremely suggestive, forward, and much too mature for ANY child to even imagine, let alone be TAUGHT. If this is what they are doing at seven, what are they going to be doing at 14? These girls will only become more bold in their moves.
This is absolutely ridiculous… and disappointing on SO many levels. Has our society become so accepting of lewd acts of a sexual nature that it no longer bothers us when our children mimick such behavior? Seriously? I can’t believe there is anyone who finds this type of a dance routine – ESPECIALLY with that attire – appropriate for 1st graders! I would have a fit if my 4th grader came home asking to participate in a performance like that. But my FIRST grader? I would probably be finding out what type of charges I could press on the school for even SHOWING her moves like that. Honestly I don’t know if this was a school event or what, but in either case, I find myself shaking my head and praying to God on behalf of this world.
These little girls are obviously very talented performers. Is there NOTHING less sexual they could have possibly done? This was IT? It is hard for me to fathom the complete absence of more acceptable choreography for this very young group of impressionable girls. And it’s not ONLY the dance. This entire SONG is inappropriate for them. These are a few lines from the lyrics of this song:

This is NOT something I want my 7 year old HEARING – certainly not singing and dancing to! Surely I’m not alone in feeling this way?
I totally agree with you on this one. I don’t understand how any parent would allow their child to take part in something like this. I think that it is a shame that anyone would allow this to take place.
I fully agree. The parents need some serious help for letting their daughters do that. I even heard one of them say the clip is being viewed out of context. I don’t care what context that is in, it’s just wrong.
I have to agree with you if I had a little girl I would not allow them to dance that way or wear such a costume. There are many dance costumes and routines that are more appropriate than this for little girls.

Little girls should not be taught to gyrate their hips and dance in a style that gives a completely new meaning to the term “ho down”.
Let little girls be little girls. This video will sadly become pedophile fodder. It’s sad.

Shame on the parents and the “crazy person” that taught them to dance this way. They are talented little girls, but this was SO inappropriate.
First, you have to remember the context for which this dance routine was created – it was for a COMPETITION.
The dance school and choreographer knew it was going to be controversial.
Controversy would bring an audience, much like a blog post.
I do believe that girls definitely are talented, but just like beauty pageants for toddlers and young girls, these girls are being put into situations not of their choosing, and will unfortunately grow up much too fast.
It’s the parents who are seeking fame and fortune for their kids (or for themselves?) but at what price?

My daughter would not be caught dead wearing these skimpy outfits…even IF I were to approve it…she is too modest. There not only skimpy they look like some kind of stripper costume. It’s soooo sad to me that this society sexualizes women in general but KIDS??!!! It’s just over the top. Where will we draw the lines? How far is too far??

It is a shame and disgrace to parents everywhere that we do so much to shield our children from the dangers of strangers in the world and now they are ‘using’ our children in such ways as this, that will set fire to the ‘prevert’ in all the sicko’s out there. This is an unspeakably sorrowful incident of parents gone wildly wrong in their judgment making. And now they are playing this all over the internet and TV and our small children will see it and you know what children do? They want to be like the other children who are getting the attention! They think…well, if ‘those’ parents let ‘those’ kids dance like that, then it must be ok. But it’s not. Shame on the dance instructors, choreographers and parents of these children. Hopefully they will get enough negative feedback that they will see the error in their ways and turn these small creations back into what they are. Little kids. Because just look at their expressions. Like they are drawing you in to ‘come get this’ kind of expression. It’s sick. And sorrowful. The perverts are happy tonight! All parents should pray.
This video, competition, dance choreography is just proof of the times we live in. Its ok to wave sex and obcenities around, even to children. Its disgusting and scary. These girls should use their talent in other dances. -Rachel

I am in utter disgust. I had to stop the video short because I just couldn’t believe it. Why do parent’s think this is ok!? I don’t care if controversy brings crowds to a dance competition. Is the price of innocence worth that? Children are losing their innocence far too early these days. Why can’t kids just be kids? This was absolutely NOT necessary. What will these girls be like in 10 years?

Makes me sick. I understand the idea of competition and award winning performances. But there are age appropriate songs and moves that these children should have been learning. What happened to dancing to songs from Disney movies?
