Those who follow me on Twitter are probably familiar with the situation I’ve been having with my washing machine for the last couple of weeks. It has alternated between the water deciding to run freely without ceasing and the drum not spinning after the water drains. This means that for almost every load I’ve washed during this time period, I’d either had to stop the water and wash the clothes inside the drum by hand or I’ve had to let it run its course then wring all the water out by hand before throwing the load in the drier. Needless to say, I have to stay fairly close to the machine while it is running so that I know which case scenario I’m working with for any given load.

Friday morning, at about 1am… I decided to start washing a load of clothes. Shortly before it reached the rinse cycle, the baby woke up and I went to lay down with her while the water drained and filled back up to rinse the clothes. I ended up falling asleep with her … and it just so happened that this particular load was one of the constantly-running-water loads. At about 3:30am, my four year old daughter, Avalyn, got up to use the bathroom – thankfully – and I heard her start yelling for me and saying, “Mamaaaaa!!! There is water EVERYwhere!” Unfortunately, she wasn’t playing. I walked into a POND throughout the front half of my house. Luckily, this house has no carpet… because there was at least an inch of water covering the floor in my laundry room, dining area, my office, living room, hallway, and bathroom.

The water had literally been running for at least 2 hours – when I got into the laundry room, it was still flowing freely. I turned the dial to cut it off and looked around, overwhelmed. I almost started to cry LOL I had NO idea where to even start. I mean, I didn’t know if I should try to clean it up or just give up and start swimming. After having moved all the furniture, disconnecting all the power cords and gathering up the ones that were touching the ground {several of which were burnt by shorting out due to the water – which, by the way, STINKS when it happens}, and using every towel and available blanket in my house to soak up water, I finally got the mess under control. I wish I would have taken pictures because there was SO much water that I honestly wouldn’t believe it had I not experienced it myself.

Needless to say, I sucked it up and had someone come repair it and my laundering process is running as smoothly as it ever has now. Apparently there was a little floaty thing inside a tube that got stuck and couldn’t tell the washing machine what it was supposed to do next. Stupid floaty things. Did you have any funny experiences this past week? I would love to read about it. Share yours in the comments or just link me to your blog post if you wrote about it :)
