Episode Notes:

I started gaining interest in doing a webcast here on MomTV because I see a community of awesome women – and quite a few men now! – and they all bring to the table their talents, gifts, and knowledge to share with other parents and I just really wanted to be a part of that…

On my website, I do a vlog series called 60 seconds for sanity where I post one-minute clips with advice on how to keep life a little less crazy and a little more peaceful. Being that this is my first episode of my new webshow, I thought I would kick off the initial airing in keeping with that theme and present a few tips on preserving your sanity!

Many thanks to those who tuned it for the live airing of my Random Chaos MomTV show. I know there are other places you could have been so I’m humbled and thankful you chose to drop in and support me as I stumble my way through this first show! LOL

What the MOST important thing is in your own life that helps you preserve your sanity – what is the one thing that you put into practice that allows you to kind of shake off the stress and maintain your peace and balance in life?

  1. Organization.
    • When things are out of order in my life, I get disoriented. I can’t focus properly; I can’t function appropriately – I’m just all out of whack. My grandmother used to say something to the effect of you need to have a place for everything and everything in its place. I hated that saying back then because it meant that I had to make up that stupid bed I would just be messing up again LOL but as I’ve matured, I’ve realized the value of that adage.
  2. Planning.
    • It’s SO important to plan ahead for things – planning saves time, it saves energy and believe it or not it saves money. But most importantly, it definitely kills stress and it counters the tendency to procrastinate! If you have a plan, you know what needs to be done now and you know what’s coming next so you’re less likely to get sidetracked.
  3. Preparation.
    • Being prepared, believe it or not, will help you tremendously in the area of punctuality. Most of the time, when you find it impossible to be on time, it’s because you’re ill prepared. If you a ORGANIZED and you PLAN AHEAD and you PREPARE in advance, you have no choice but to be on time. That’s a MAJOR stress killer there.
  4. Letting go.
    • Don’t hold on to the pain, resentment, and grudges of the betrayals and wrongs you got from people in the past. Start the process in your heart of letting it all go… forgiveness is not for them. It’s not about the fact that they owe you an apology or that they haven’t asked for your forgiveness. It’s about what you owe yourself… you owe it to yourself to reclaim your peace and your happiness. Resentment and anger counters those things. Let them go.
  5. Communication.
    • If you have something to say, SAY IT! You don’t have to be bold or confrontational; you don’t have to be rude or tacky – but you can be assertive and respectful while getting your point across. No one is going to lend you their voice – you must have your own. If you don’t communicate your feelings and thoughts honestly, you may as well not have them because NO ONE is going to read your mind. Speak up. Be heard.
  6. PRAYER… for me, my faith is HUGE.
    • Perhaps for you, it’s not prayer. For me, if I don’t spend time with God, my entire demeanor, attitude, and outlook takes a turn for the worst. Whatever that *thing* is that you know you must do or you will suffer without it, MAKE TIME FOR IT! You have to make time for what is important to you – you have to have “you” time. It’s essential for your own mental, spiritual, and emotional health… If you’re not healthy in those areas, it will begin to be reflected in your physical health as well. SO – make yourself a priority… you can’t help anyone else if you’re not even helping yourself!!
