CONGRATS to the winner of the PigTail Pals giveaway: Commenter #5 {JENNIFER}
Have you ever wondered why all little girls’ stuff seems to tell them, “Being pretty is most important – leave the heavy stuff to the boys!?” The owner of PigTail Pals began asking herself this same question! What was born out of her inquiry ended up being a t-shirt line developed for little girls in an attempt to “Redefine Girly!” Their t-shirts include each of the following designs:
- Race Car Driver: I drive like a girl…
- Doctor/EMT: Call me in the morning…
- Military officers: Don’t fight with girls…
- Pilot: This is your captain speaking…
- Astronaut: When you wish upon the stars…
- Police Officer: Blue is my color…
- Scientist: I’m cooking something great. Find the cure, 2009…
- Fire Fighter: I look good in red…
- Carpenter: I broke a nail…
- Movie Director: Act like a lady…
My four year old, Avalyn, is pictured above in the Scientist design. She was SO excited to get her shirt in the mail. My girls are “girly” to a certain degree but they are also very – er – tomboyish as well! I was almost surprised she didn’t go for the astronaut or the fire fighter! I allowed her to choose her own because I felt it only to be right in line with the Pigtail Pals’ mission of empowering young girls to make their own decisions – and develop their own dreams! The t-shirt is made of 100% cotton, which I love… I like the idea of my children wearing natural materials versus man-made ones that have the potential to cause reactions or be ‘itchy’ to them. The t-shirt is adorable, and obviously you can tell Ava loves hers!
About Pigtail Pals
We are a company that offers distinctive designs on stylish, premium tees. Our colors remind girls to be bold. Pigtail Pals inspires girls to be smart, daring, and adventurous. We encourage girls to Redefine Girly! Pigtail Pals was created by Melissa Wardy, a stay-at-home mom who wants better options for her pre-school daughter when it comes to clothes. Melissa wants role models for her daughter that exemplified courage, intelligence, and independence. She doesn’t want to confine her little girl to the pink and purple world being marketed to her. When Melissa couldn’t find what she wanted, Pigtail Pals was born. Pigtail Pals tries to get away from the ubiquitous pink and purple princess-diva-drama queen trend. It is our intention to show girls that they may be bold, adventurous and heroic just like the boys! A Pigtail Pal doesn’t wish upon a star and wait for her prince to show up. A Pigtail Pal gets into her rocket ship and finds that star all on her own!

get LOSS™ ($28) has two programs designed specifically for Women and Men. get LOSS is a habit development system designed by medical professionals that helps you monitor the habits necessary to achieve healthy weight loss. For women, there is a guide and bracelet collection to wear on the wrists while men will receive a guide and token collection which is housed in his pant pockets. Both systems are equally effective at helping to track food groups, calories, points and other <img class=”size-medium wp-image-1161 alignright” title=”VID01191″ src=”http://iheartseven.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/VID01191-375×500.jpg” alt=”VID01191″ width=”270″ height=”360″ />nutritional measurements, based on the habit plan you choose to follow. Self-care begins each morning by placing your bracelet collection on one wrist or token collection in one pocket. Throughout the day, simply shift the appropriate color and quantity of bracelets or tokens to your other wrist or pocket with each meal and snack. One side shows goals for the day, the other tracks your accomplishments!

get TRACKING™ for Kids ($28) is a habit development system designed by medical professionals that helps kids monitor healthy eating and physical activity habits. Use the guide and wristband collection to track food groups, servings and exercise. get TRACKING™ is fun, educational and is used in the same manner as get LOSS for Women. Standard size is approximately 6.5 inches in circumference, but larger sizes are also available.

get WET™ ($24) also has two programs, one tailored for Women and the other for Men. This system helps monitor the habits necessary to increase water intake. Women use the guide and bracelet collection to track your daily glasses, ounces or the USDA’s Total Water Adequate Intake while men use the guide and token collection. Each is used in the same manner as the get LOSS system with one side showing goals for the day and the other, your accomplishments.

I was given the opportunity to try out the get LOSS for Women and the get TRACKING for Kids. I think the get TRACKING system works best for children with a good sense of responsibility and at least a decent level of maturity. My 4 and 6 year olds simply wanted to play with the bracelets. They didn’t understand that they were part of a program {or didn’t care!} lol However, my 9 year old daughter was interested in using the stylish bracelets to track her food intake and I was pleasantly surprised to see how easy she found it to follow the program. She picked up the guide and started all on her own! The bracelets are pretty thick and durable and very colorful. Amazingly, I don’t believe any of the bracelets have gotten broken (which is a miracle in this house!)
As for the get LOSS for Women, while the bracelets are very nice – I love that the colors aren’t “bright” in appearance so they don’t stand out against you, but they are vibrant and the colors compliment one another. The bracelets with this system have a sophisticated yet fun style! The colors easily correspond to the food group they represent (veggies = green; oils = yellow, etc) so it makes it easy to keep track of what is what. The material the beads are strung on is not particularly thin, but I did find that my 17 month old ended up popping several of them off my arm while I was wearing them. I had to be careful around her as she continuously tried to pull them off of me! Under normal wear, they seem to hold up well; I actually got a couple of them stuck on my wedding ring as I took them on/off and none of them got broken that way. {I believe my baby was just being extremely forceful – she has quite a grip!}
All in all, I loved the idea behind both programs I got to try out. I think it helps tremendously to have a constant visual reminder of your success (or failure) when it comes to important goals like being health conscious!
About Habitwise
Habitwise™ began with a simple weight loss tool originally named, A-Wrist-A-Trac, which was discovered by a team of clinicians at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, Nebraska. A small group of professional women saw the potential of A-Wrist-A-Trac and were inspired by the low-tech innovation that could be used to remedy challenges in their own lives- especially the challenge between knowing and doing when it comes to living a healthier life. Lunch meetings, baseball games, conference calls, or dance lessons are all distractions that keep us from doing what we know is best. The women found that simple bracelets served as friendly reminders and empowered them to accomplish many goals, thus paving the journey for Habitwise. The technology was licensed from the University in cooperation with UNMC’s technology transfer division, UNeMed Corporation, and now the women have ignited their entrepreneurial spirit and are out changing lives!

I visited the site and I like the shirt that says “don’t fight with girls” LMBO! These t-shirts would be so great for my little girl, as you probably know she is turning out quite the little fiminist. Always reminding us she can do whatever any boy can do. I didn’t see a football t-shirt on the site lol but she would LOVE that!
I’ll pass that info along :) Great suggestion!

There were too many I liked! SUCH a great idea. I picked the one that suits my daughter the most It was the “BLUE IS MY COLOR”!
She wants to go into law enforcement (at the ripe old age of 8!) blue actually is her favorite color and the picture of the girl has a gun, which she also enjoys (thanks to her Dad) It’s the perfect tee! (I think I’ll buy it if I don’t win, it’s really TOO perfect!)
