Today, my Pastor preached the second sermon of a 3-part series called “I’m the One!” The basic message is that God called you to be SOMETHING… He called each and every one of us to be SOMEONE. Many of us feel like failures or are even unhappy or unfulfilled in our success because we’re not being obedient to our calling – we are not doing what God gifted us to do and haven’t yet begun to live a life according to His purpose for us. One thing Pastor said that jumped out at me is that you will never accomplish anything that you don’t first SEE as a possibility… if you aren’t able to believe you can do something, you’ll never seek to accomplish it. I’ve found myself growing more and more complacent because of all the things I “can’t” do because I have so many children. I keep reminding myself that I’m getting older by the day… and that the time has passed for me to achieve some of the things I have more than adequate skill, ability, and talent to do.
The reason for this post is for me to express how WRONG that thinking is… and to tell each of you that sometimes the world is going to tell you that you’re too old for something, or that the time for certain things has passed you by. Those around you may discourage you from pursuing what they see as “silly” or perhaps even impossible dreams… you may find adversity at every turn and may even have your own former supporters standing in opposition of where you’re trying to go. My advice: IGNORE those who are IGNORANT to your purpose and trust that God would not put something WITHIN YOU that He had no intention of eventually DRAGGING OUT to use for His glory. So, when no one is behind you, remember that GOD HAS ALREADY GONE BEFORE YOU and sometimes, folks, you just gotta encourage yourself.
So, take a long look at yourself in the mirror and say, “Self, I AM THE ONE! I am the one God called for this certain thing. I am the one He ordained, appointed, anointed, and purposed for this specific assignment! NO ONE can take away from me what GOD said is for me. IF MY GOD said it is, then IT IS!” I can do ALL things through Christ … Why? Because it’s not through my own resources, knowledge, or gifts that I succeed but it is through HIS strength, favor, and provision that I move forward into my destiny – into my blessed place. I’m going there. Where are you going?
