Homeschooling… over some shoes?

I’ve been contemplating homeschooling for about 3 years now. I’ve finally decided that I AM! My son does not benefit from the classroom setting the way his two sisters do. Today, the last straw was getting a call from the school that my son would be in detention today because he was not wearing his tennis shoes (which in a large house with 5 kids, there’s no telling where they were or who lost them as he was scrambling to catch their 6:30am bus to school) but rather had worn these:

Someone please help me. I think I missed something… What is the detention for again? He kicked someone with these shoes? Um, no… he was just wearing them. Oh… you mean, he took them off in class? No, just WEARING them. Oh ok, and what were you calling about because I am confused; it sounded like you just called to tell me my son has detention today for WEARING SHOES. Yes, that’s right. Ohhhhhhhk. I’m coming to get him. That’s it.

And that’s that. So, I’ve filed the paperwork with the school board office, mailed the homeschool application to Baton Rouge, and notified – in writing – the school that he is now enrolled in a home-based school program and will need a set of textbooks (which I picked up this afternoon) and his transcript (which I also picked up this afternoon.Where was I again? Oh yeah… that’s THAT! :) And I feel GREAT about it. He’s SUPER excited!! We start MONDAY!Oh… and just as a sidenote, these are the shoes that my 6 year old 1st grader wears to the same school every day… with no problems:

Until next time...
