My daughter was born at 10:31am this morning! She is 20.75 inches long and 7 pounds 15.1 ounces of pure perfection! BRIYANA AMAYA ROBERTSON! She is just beautiful… and in perfect health. Her one minute APGAR was a 9 and her 5 minute APGAR was a 10. I went into labor at about 11 last night after an hour of walking with Mary Folks. Barry was at the CLUB! LOL but he came to the hospital at about 12:30 when my sister found him and told him that I was at the hospital… He was wonderful :) He stroked my forehead while I was having contractions and stood at my side holding my hand. He fed me ice chips with a spoon…

Delivery was pretty easy… I pushed about 7-8 times and it was over. It took all of 15 minutes! Barry cut her cord even though he said he was not going to. It was the most wonderful experience in the world. After waiting 41 weeks and 3 days and going through 11 hours and 31 minutes of labor and delivery- to finally HOLD her! Barry took a lot of pictures of her and of course I cried! I am so happy. There is nothing else that I need right now… my life is complete!
Here is Briyana’s birth story:
I paced around in my bedroom for about three weeks, waiting to feel any sign that I was ready. I had my hospital bags packed even before my baby shower on January 15th, 2000! one for myself and one for my daughter. In them, I had included my journal and a Mother Goose storybook, both of which were received as gifts from my English III Teacher, Anna Trest. My due date- January 27th- came and went without even a hint of a contraction and after that, day after day, I wondered if I would ever have this baby! Finally, on February 5th, I just had a feeling that it was time for her to come. I called my friend and told her I needed to go walk. We tried to walk at the track at the high school, but being that it was February, it was too cold, so we ended up walking around the first floor of the hospital where I was planning to deliver. At about 10:30pm, I decided my contractions were more than I could bear walking around so we made the elevator ride to Labor and Delivery… only to be sent back down to walk for another hour! At about 11:40 we went back up and the nurse put me on the fetal monitor, checked my cervix, and announced that I could FINALLY be admitted! I had dilated to 4 cm. I WAS OFFICIALLY IN LABOR!!!
My fiance, Barry, came to the hospital when they called and told him that it was NOT another false alarm. At 12:10am, they put me in the Labor room and there I waited, refusing to be medicated (thinking I was going to go ALL NATURAL) for over 5 hours! Barry rubbed my head and held my hand and fed me ice chips with a plastic spoon, doing all that he could to comfort me, or maybe he was just trying to keep himself busy to keep his mind off the fact that he was scared to death! At about 5:20am I finally choked down my pride and let them give me stadol through my IV so that I could rest in between contractions, until about two hours later when I realized that I could no longer stand the pain and announced that I was ready for the epidural that I swore up and down the whole time I was pregnant I wasn’t going to get! Little did I know that it would be almost another hour before I could get it because an enema had to be performed first. By the time I got the epidural, it was just after 8:00am and I was 7 cm dilated. After that, I didn’t feel a thing. I slept and tried to talk to Barry, but I was so out of it from being so exhausted I wasn’t making much sense. My water broke somewhere in the middle of it all and at about 10:05am, the nurse came in and checked my cervix and said that I was almost 10 cm. So they started prepping and bringing in all the stuff for the baby! I started pushing at about 10:20, which lasted about 7 pushes and then our daughter was born at 10:31am Sunday, February 6, 2000, weighing 7 pounds 15 ounces at 20 3/4 inches long: BRIYANA AMAYA ROBERTSON!
